FMC Surgeon Achieves Recertification Through American Board of Surgery

Fairfield Medical Center is proud to announce that Steven D. Cox, M.D., F.A.C.S., has recently achieved recertification in general surgery for a third time through the American Board of Surgery.

Dr Cox Recertification“We are proud of Dr. Cox’s achievement,” said Martha Buckley, Fairfield Medical Center chief medical officer. “This demonstrates Dr. Cox’s commitment to providing the highest quality of care to his patients.”

Dr. Cox received his medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1979. He completed his surgery residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in 1984, and immediately started a general surgery practice in Lancaster. He received his initial board certification in 1986, and successfully recertified in 1995, 2004 and 2014. He also scored in the top 3 percent of approximately 2,000 physicians taking the recertification exam in December 2014.

“I will always make it a priority to learn as much as I can when it comes to my patients,” Dr. Cox said. “I want to give them the best care I can and this recertification is an important step to accomplishing my mission.”

Dr. Cox served as chief medical information officer at Fairfield Medical Center from 2007-2010 and as chief medical officer from 2010-2014. In August 2014, he returned to full-time practice, now working in the Fairfield Healthcare Professionals medical group associated with FMC. His office is located at 135 N.
