FMC Proud to be an ACS Accredited Commission on Cancer Program

Fairfield Medical Center has been accredited by the Commission on Cancer (CoC), a quality program of the American College of Surgeons, since 1999.  Today, more than 1,500 cancer centers across the country are CoC accredited, ensuring the provision of high-quality cancer care.  Every three years, the CoC performs a site review, assessing a multitude of standards and quality processes.  On Sept. 10, FMC was found to be compliant with all standards upon review of our cancer program activities during 2021 through 2023.  While our cancer program is led by Chad Stoltz, Director of Cancer Services, and Jessica Ginikos, Cancer Program Administrator, and assisted by Marcia Gordon, Cancer Registrar, the CoC standards are fulfilled by a collaboration between the Cancer Care and Infusion Services team and nearly every department of the hospital. Benefits of this accreditation encompassed by the CoC standards include:

  • Quality cancer care offering state-of-the-art services and equipment
  • A multidisciplinary team approach using evidence-based national treatment guidelines
  • Access to cancer-related information and education
  • Access to patient-centered services such as psychosocial distress screening and navigation
  • Options for genetic assessment and counseling, and palliative care services
  • Follow up care at the completion of treatment, including survivorship services
  • Information about clinical trials and new treatment options
  • A cancer registry that collects data on cancer type, stage, and treatment results, and offers lifelong patient follow-up
